What Saved a Strong Guy During the Hoverla Climb

Climbing Hoverla is a challenging and responsible undertaking. Magic Camp children's camp organizes such hikes because they provide a powerful boost to development, teach endurance and perseverance, instill self-confidence, and, of course, create unique conditions for improving English. When you go on an English-speaking Magic Camp shift in Yaremche, get ready to speak English even on the mountain!

Of course, there are a lot of positive emotions, and a sense of accomplishment fills everyone who climbed, especially for the first time.

Shift in Yaremche. Climbing Makovytsia. 2016

One day, after a successful climb, when everyone had already returned to camp and was resting before evening activities, Oleh – such a tall, strong guy from the senior group – came up with a question. He was complaining about nausea.

— Maybe I'll just get rid of the nausea the good old-fashioned way?

What do you mean?

— Well, you know, two fingers and everything unnecessary comes out.

Oleh, you were on Hoverla, it was hot, you spent 4 hours in the sun. Here's a liter of water, drink it in small sips over an hour and tell me if it helps or not.

— Oh come on! What good is water?! If I feel nauseous, I need to get rid of it.

Oleh, please try my gentle method, just drink some water, if it doesn't help – try your method. Okay?

Looking skeptically at the water bottle, he took it and went to drink. We agreed that he would come back in an hour and tell me how he was feeling.

— Nadia, the nausea is gone! Why? It's just water, right? There was no medicine, and everything passed. How?

You probably had dehydration, you replenished your body's water supply and everything restored itself. Water was the medicine, wasn't it?

— I never knew you could treat yourself with water.

You weren't sick, you just didn't have enough water.

— Thank you, I'll know now.

I love remembering this story, it's not so often that you manage to convince a skeptic of something, and here I even taught a teenager about the magical properties of water! And in English too! Oleh and I communicated exclusively in English – because it's not difficult and it's interesting!

Stay healthy and drink water!
